Health Equities and Racial Disparities: The Pandemic Within a Pandemic

When a听富二代成版人app faculty panel听convened听online on Thursday, July 30听to discuss, 鈥Health Equities and Racial Disparities, the Pandemic within a Pandemic,听迟丑别测听touched on听ways that听underrepresentedcommunities听can make inroads in听professional medical fields.听听The expert panel featured听Drs. Joy Howell, Vanessa Rouzier and Monika Safford with the conversation moderated by听Dr. Said Ibrahim.听

Among them听are听programs that support pre-medical students, such as the听. The six-week program听gives听25 premedical students insights into the field of medicine, including issues that greatly affect the health of traditionally underserved groups.听

Students conduct laboratory and clinical research, attend lectures, shadow physicians, and receive information about听the medical school admissions process. The program also offers听counseling on financial planning for medical school and how to examine the financial aid package.

鈥泪t's important to expose young people to successful role models in medicine, to make them comfortable with their academic environment,鈥 Said Ibrahim,听MD, MPH, MBA, senior associate dean for diversity and inclusion at 富二代成版人app.

The Traveler鈥檚 program听has been successful, Dr. Ibrahim said.听

鈥淓颈驳丑迟测-three percent听of听[participants]听have been attending medical schools,鈥 he explained.听鈥淣颈苍别迟测-six percent听of them have graduated from medical schools.It's programs like that, that we meet throughout the country. I said that we can increase the representation of minorities in medical schools and therefore diversify our medical workforce.
